Who We Are
The South Jersey Medical Society (SJMS) is the official regional affiliate of the National Medical Association, uniting Black physicians, allied health professionals, residents, and medical students across Southern and Central New Jersey.
We are a professional community rooted in service, leadership, and advocacy. We are committed to advancing Black health, empowering Black clinicians, and strengthening the healthcare workforce. Guided by the National Medical Association’s longstanding mission, we work collectively to promote wellness, eliminate health disparities, and support the physicians who care for our communities.
Our Mission
Aligned with the National Medical Association’s mission to advance the art and science of medicine for people of African descent, SJMS is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Black communities throughout South Jersey.
Our mission is to support the physicians and trainees who serve these communities; promote excellence through education, advocacy, and health policy; and champion initiatives that address the diseases, inequities, and structural barriers that disproportionately impact people of African descent and other underserved populations.
We strive to build a thriving pipeline of future clinicians, expand representation in medicine, sustain physician viability, and create a more equitable healthcare system through mentorship, scholarly exchange, community engagement, and collaborative action.
